AMD vs Intel

Neck to Neck competition is easily seen in market, more in tech market, since once they are doing the similar business, there will be price war and their revenue would go lower…

Like the telecom giants Nokia, Ericsson, Motorola, of course Motorola is dying now and as last time I mentioned it would be the week of 3GSM (12-16Feb) and normally good for Telecom Stocks, Nokia claimed from 21.8 to 23.14… then it stood still (Even more scary, Qualcomm, Texas Instrument pairs; Qualcomm was 38.05 to 42.51).

This time I want to discuss Intel and AMD:

can see from the chart, the peak for AMD was early last year, when AMD announced to sell chips to Dell (one of the Intel’s exclusive customers). Then as many many stocks, the prices for both stocks were washing down in the period of End May-July last year. Then Intel announced their Duo Core product. At the beginning, there were many concerns about Duo Core compatibility with different OS etc. However, after products launched smoothly, Intel beat AMD heavily throughout the sales season in winter last year. After announcing the results, Intel is going to expand their production line etc. Maybe it’s the end of AMD, and there is news recently about a buyout of AMD as well. However, afterall, Intel and AMD, which CPU would you buy?

As a consumer, I bought AMD for my desktop and Intel for my laptop… because AMD laptop is not common (getting more common though). If price is not an issue, I would like to buy a second best grade CPU, since price of the top grade one normally goes down pretty quickly. Hmm… Now I would buy Intel Duo Core if I want to use <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Vista. However, in this summer, maybe I would buy AMD for it will also launch its Duo Core product (Intel may announce its 4 Core, but I just want to run Vista, not to compile Vista…)

Well, check check with your friends if they are using AMD or Intel, then you can see the trend of their performance as well la~ For me, maybe a buyout, otherwise this summer seems AMD would have a good chance to fight Intel again.
