Career Goal?

Thanks Lily... (My MBA Application Letter)

To become a successful business owner in the engineering consulting field has always been my ultimate career goal. This aspiration stems not only from the inspiration of my engineer father, but also from my ability to excel in the scientific arena. The choices that I have made in my life are clear evidences of my determination in achieving my goal. After graduating from secondary school in HK, I decided to broaden my horizon by studying abroad in the UK, where I gained an engineering degree at the prestigious Imperial College of London. Having completed my final year thesis on 3G mobile, I decided to work for the world's biggest 3G mobile operator - Hong Kong based Hutchison 3G, where I recently celebrated my latest career milestone – the launch of 3G service in Hong Kong early 2004.

In year 2001, eager to put my technical expertise into test in a business context, I partnered with two colleagues setting up a startup company providing technology services. Despite our wealth of technical know-how and well rounded social skills, the company stalled, and to this day is still lacking the much needed business synergy and direction. Instead of feeling frustrated and helpless, I feel even more excited in exploring the challenges of the business and management world. I cherish every experience that I have had in my life, no matter the level of success. Those experiences are essential in providing me with a deep understanding of my strengths and weaknesses. They also gave me an invaluable insight into marketing, operational management and strategy development. In reaching my ultimate career goal, I want to be enriched with business knowledge complementing my well regarded technical expertise. Therefore I feel the time is right for me to pursue business studies through an MBA course with UST.

UST provides the best MBA course in Asia. What can be better than to study the best MBA course in my beloved home city – Hong Kong? Before I start my own engineering consulting business, I plan to gain real world financial exposure by working as a financial consultant in the telecom or technology field. An MBA from UST will give me the necessary edge in gaining a footing in the financial industry. I am particularly impressed with UST's strong links with China and its excellent overseas exchange programs. With China becoming an increasingly important economic player in the world, I feel confident that an MBA course in UST will provide me with the necessary knowledge for my future business development in China. I am especially interested in the legal and financial aspects of doing business in both China and other parts of the world. Having studied in UK and worked in Europe and Asia, I understand just how important it is to have the right business strategies to suit the needs of vastly different cultures. UST's exchange program will furnish me not only with the opportunities of studying MBA in a different country, but also with the life long networks of potential business partners all over the world.
