A Brief History of Time
I think most of you cannot imagine, it was my mom who recommended me to read this book.
Yes, it is such a famous book. People said, it's one of the all time best seller for science, people like to put that on their shelf to look good. Well, indeed, I don't know where I put this book already. The Chinese version of it which bought by my sister was given to a friend. As it is not easy to read science book in Chinese. Anyway, finally, I bought a version with diagrams in it lately. But not yet in my hand.
I read this book several times. The first time I read it, was in half term in Upper Six, Lent Term. Well, I spent one week to finish the whole book. I can say, I don't understand quite well on the last few chapters. But it is not difficult to understand the first few parts. I think most people would understand that. Stephen Hawking said each equation in a book would down size half of the number of readers. Hmm... but for me, it might be good to have appendix for equations. Maths or equations for me is just a kind of language, like notes for music. It is just a way for presentation, reasoning and proof. However, I do recommend this book to people who are interested in cosmology.
There are more things about this book, which is a the time I was reading this book. I read the newspaper about Stephen Hawking was going to give an open lecture in Albert Hall, London. I was so excited! I immediately applied 2 tickets, no matter who would go with me, I need a companion. Finally, I got the tickets and I went there with my best friend, Nick Davis, whose home is in London!
It was such a fascinating thing to share, as everyone knows Stephen Hawking couldn't speak. His lecture was conducted by the speech synthesizer. All materials were already prepared, so it was like we just went there to listen the audio tape. However, things were clear, though the machine's accent did make it difficult. Also I was deep in love with Albert Hall, in which eventually I had my graduation ceremony in.
