Building house on rock. (Matthew 7:24)

1995 - Friday night football

As mentioned in the last chapter, I did quickly get a good reputation for me playing football. I wasn't a brilliant player, but I knew some football tricks: a bit of keep the ball up without letting it drop after 100 kicks, something like that. I enjoyed playing football even with my own self. From time to time, at night, I would put some rose petals on the garden field. Since the rose were white, I then could do some dribbling and running with the ball around the petals. I did have an enjoyable time.

From then, I joined the Ritchie House assistant, Mr. Tapner and my friends, Terry and Mike to play indoor football on Friday night. It was quite a skill demanding game. Since the ball could not be kicked above shoulder, and since it was indoor, the ball was like a real-size-football tennis. It had a good bounce. The game was fast and physical. Before I went, staff always won the game, however, as I did play a lot of indoor or walled football in HongKong. I could make use of the wall and since the pitch was tiny, I could control well without wasting much of the energy... The student team got better and better. Personally, my strike was still not very strong, however, my first touch has really improved due to this kind of game.

Because of this endless training for these two years. My ankle is strong and I did have a good sense of passing and battle. Since I have to throw 200% of myself to push and knock down the others, I got a sharp determination in every game. Of course, because of my seriousness, I would get crossed in the football field easily, not till I go to university. I remember once I did scold to some juniors who weren't paying attention at all on the game but just wasting time only on game session. I called them rubbish... heehee...

In that time, there were no chinese for me to play with, so I only played football with the westerners, and I collected many many friends and happy memories in Wells Cathedral School.
